Frank Meisler (1925-2018), "Sitting Camel," model D290, an exceptionally engaging signed and numbered limited-edition articulated sculpture by the internationally collected Israeli artist and sculptor, executed in metal alloy with contrasting silver and gold-plated finishes. Signed "Frank Meisler Israel" and numbered 698/730, this substantial sculptural camel exemplifies the distinctive combination of technical ingenuity, architectural construction, sumptuous surface detail and sophisticated humor for which Meisler's kinetic works are particularly admired.

The recumbent camel is conceived with remarkable personality and presence, its elongated neck and expressive head articulated to permit repositioning and subtly alter the character of the composition. The highly polished silver-tone body is enriched with deeply modeled anatomical details, textured mane and humps, incised contours and an expressive face accented by inset golden eyes. Elaborate gold-tone saddle trappings provide a dramatic visual counterpoint, including richly patterned textile-like relief decoration, sculptural fittings and suspended bells beneath the muzzle. The complexity of the ornamentation and contrast between polished silver and warm gilt surfaces give the sculpture an almost jewel-like quality when viewed in the round.

Born in Danzig in 1925 and later establishing his celebrated studio in the Artists' Quarter of Old Jaffa, Israel, Frank Meisler developed an unmistakable sculptural language blending metalwork, mechanical articulation, narrative wit and meticulous craftsmanship. His limited-edition works have become particularly recognizable within the international market for modern Israeli sculpture and kinetic decorative art. The camel, a subject strongly associated with the landscapes and visual culture of the Middle East, proved especially well suited to Meisler's playful sculptural sensibility, and "Sitting Camel" stands among the most visually memorable examples of his animalier production.

The present example is especially desirable for retaining the complete sculptural composition with its articulated head and neck, elaborate gilt saddle ornamentation, hanging bells and clearly engraved artist signature, Israeli designation and limited-edition number. The sculpture presents in excellent condition with attractive, bright surfaces and no evidence of handling. An immediately recognizable and highly decorative Frank Meisler sculpture offering broad crossover appeal to collectors of Israeli art, kinetic sculpture, modern animalier sculpture, limited-edition decorative art and distinctive silver and gold-plated objets d'art.
