A vintage Rex Fifth Avenue square powder compact from the late 1940s to early 1950s, marked REX / FIFTH AVENUE inside the case. The lid features a bright red enameled surface w/ a central rectangular plaque of white guilloche enamel hand-painted w/ a bouquet of pink cabbage roses, buds, and green leaves, framed by a beaded gold-tone border. The reverse is finished in brushed gold-tone gilt w/ vertical linear striations; the case sides and pushbutton clasp retain gilt finish w/ signs of handling wear. Interior opens to reveal a square beveled mirror in the lid and a gilt powder well w/ intact recessed sifter panel; powder puff not present. Compact measures approx 2.56 in. square x 0.37 in. depth; weighs 80g. Shows scattered surface scuffs and light enamel wear to the red lid consistent w/ age and handling; painted floral plaque appears intact w/o chips; hinge and closure function; mirror shows minor darkening/foxing.
