This lot features a Village Blacksmith meat cleaver and an 18th-century forged hammer head. The solid steel cleaver blade features an arched stamp reading VILLAGE BLACKSMITH above the words SOLID STEEL FORGED. The accompanying bog ironhammer head was recovered near Batsto Furnace and features early weight-indicator holes. It is presented with a vintage interpretive plaque documenting its Revolutionary War-era provenance.The meat cleaver exhibits surface oxidation and pitting on the blade with wear and minor splitting to the wooden handle. The hammer head shows heavy, stabilized oxidation and deep pitting.
