Height:5.5cm (2.17in) , Width:30cm (11.81in) , Weight:2040g (4.494lb) Carved from Hetian jade, this burial jade is modelled as a recumbent pig with sturdy elongated body, broad snout, prominent round eyes and two nostrils pierced on the muzzle. It adopts the classic Han ??Eight?Knife?? carving technique with succinct, forceful incised lines defining ears, nose and limbs. Heavily patinated from long?term burial, the jade displays variegated reddish?brown and honey?yellow staining with earth encrustations. Such jade pigs were placed in the deceased??s hands, symbolizing wealth and abundance in afterlife. As a representative high?rank Han burial jade, it bears great academic and collecting value.
