Original Echruseos or Gold Leaf art. Signed lower LH side of image. Frame measures 19 1/2" x 17 1/2", image measures 9 1/2" x 7 1/4". Jack White invented the process of Echruseos (gold leaf) art in 1970 when he started putting small sheets of gold leaf on the reverse side of glass. Pronounced Ek-Cru-Sos, he took a Greek lexicon and invented a word to go with his art technique. Ek means out of, Crus means gold, Ous means having been done. So literally the word Echruseos means "Out of gold having been done", and so the new name was coined. White stopped producing this type of art in 1978, so they have become very scarce, very desirable, and very collectible. Jack White (1933-2016) a sixth generation Texan, great grandson of famous Texas Ranger Ben McGee and great, great grandson of Dillard Cooper, on of the few men that escaped the Goliad Massacre. In 1976 Jack was named the Official Artist of Texas by The Texas Legislature, and the following year a street was named after him. He was the first non-law enforcement person to be named honorary Texas Ranger and given a life-membership into the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame. In 2006 Governor Rick Perry named him honoree Admiral in the Texas Navy, an honor bestowed to only a handful of people. He had to put his career on hold when two car thieves fleeing police in a stolen vehicle slammed in to his car, severely injuring his painting arm and shoulder. He then turned to writing and penned eight books that have become a respected road map for those in the art world.
