A silver-gilt repoussé chalice, probably Italian, circa 1750. The bowl with gilt interior above a richly cast and chased stem and spreading foot decorated with cherub masks, scrolling foliage, shells, and cartouches enclosing the Instruments of Christ’s Passion. The knop with winged cherub heads and devotional emblems, the foot further ornamented with religious symbols including the Cross, lantern, and other Passion devices. Marked to the foot with hallmarks believed to be from the Papal States. 18.78 ozt. 10 3/8" x 5 3/4". Provenance: Includes facsimile of E. Foxe Harrell 2019 appraisal.
