A carved and gilt wood figure of the Madonna and Child. Continental, probably 18th century. Shown standing upon a crescent moon and serpent, symbolizing the Virgin’s triumph over sin. The Christ Child is depicted seated upon the Virgin’s arm with hand raised in blessing. Retains substantial original gilding and polychrome decoration 18" x 5 3/4" x 4".
