A carved ivory relief plaquette depicting the Battle of Pavia, the 1525 conflict between the forces of Charles V and Francis I of France. 17th century. The composition centered with mounted and standing soldiers in combat beneath an allegorical figure holding a cross and attended by putti, with architectural elements in the background. Mounted within an octagonal wood and ivory veneered frame with engraved decoration and textile backing 1 7/8" x 2 1/2". Frame: 2 3/4" x 2 1/2".
