A Continental silver-gilt tazza (compote dish) tested for silver, late 19th century, bearing subsequent spurious Russian hallmarks, the two-part expandable tazza featuring a shallow bowl with an engraved foliate rim and a central reserved silver starburst floral medallion, raised on a conforming domed pedestal base. The silver rim is stamped with European hallmarks, including a German/Austrian 13 Loth fineness mark (approx. .812 silver) and a small letter v control mark. Upon disassembly, both the upper dish and the lower pedestal base (excluding the chased central structural rosette nut) are additionally stamped with spurious Cyrillic FABERGE and 84 zolotnik St. Petersburg Assay marks. Measuring 9 5/8 inches high x 10 1/8 inches diameter, weight 416 grams.
