Three pieces of antique forged and stamped ironwork. (1) A pair of blacksmith's tongs with a rounded gripping eye at the jaws and long tapered reins, one rein fitted with a slip-on pipe extension for added reach; an old chalked inventory number, 2009, is still readable on the rein. (2) and (3) Two steel T-strap hinges of the kind hung on barn doors, gates and sheds, each with a rectangular jamb leaf and a long tapered strap drilled for screws, knuckle and pin intact. Both hinges show heavy rust with traces of old white paint, and one leaf has a keyhole slot. The tongs show even dark oxidation and forge scale, with no cracks or bends visible and jaws that appear to align. No maker marks are visible on any of the three. Hand-forged tongs are bought by working smiths as much as by collectors, since a sound pair still does the job it was made for. No ruler was included in these photos, so judge size from the images. Condition is fair, with surface rust throughout. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot. Written descriptions are a guide only and may contain errors.
