PHILLIPS 66 - THE ROADSIDE SHIELD IN DIE-CUT NEON Phillips 66 adopted its highway-shield logo in 1930, borrowing the shape of the U.S. Route marker, and the shield hung over stations along Route 66 and far beyond. This 48-inch die-cut neon follows the outline of the shield and lights the Phillips 66 lettering in glowing neon. At four feet, this is a landmark piece for the serious collector. REAL NEON. REAL PORCELAIN. MADE THE OLD WAY. This is authentic neon: hand-blown, hand-bent glass tubes, vacuum-sealed and filled with noble gas, lit by a high-voltage neon transformer. It is the same warm, living glow that hung over service stations and dealerships in the golden age of the American roadside. The face is real kiln-fired porcelain enamel on a heavy steel can, made with the same traditional techniques and authentic materials as the porcelain signs in this sale. Built to outlast you: the transformer will wear out long before the glass does. Replace the transformer and a well-kept neon sign will glow for 50-plus years.
