Scott #65 – 1861 3¢ Washington, rose / brown-red (used). This is the common workhorse 3¢ stamp of the 1861–66 National Bank Note issue (issued August 1861). Design matches exactly: Washington profile facing left in an oval frame, “U.S. POSTAGE” at top, large “3” numerals in the upper corners, and “U THREE CENTS” at bottom. Perforated 12, no watermark, no grill (the grilled versions are later Scott numbers such as 79, 82, etc.). The reverse shows the expected thin, somewhat translucent paper of the period with no clear grill pattern.Color identificationSwedish Tiger (theswedishtiger.com) lists Scott 65 as rose / brown red. Your example falls in that range—warm reddish-brown rather than the brighter/more magenta “pink” family.
