Scott 94, 3¢ rose/red Washington with F Grill (1868), on a local Pennsylvania advertising cover.This is the common “workhorse” grilled stamp of the late 1860s (National Bank Note Co. printing of the 1861 design). The F Grill is points-down, roughly 9 × 13 mm, with typically 11–12 points across by 15–17 down. The cover is a September (year docketed 1868 on reverse) Smethport, McKean County, PA circular date stamp to Roulette (Roulett), Potter County, PA—a short-distance intrastate letter. It bears the printed corner card of Frank King (“the English Grocer”), Smethport, advertising groceries, provisions, woodenware, shoes, Yankee notions, stationery, and general news agent. Manuscript notation “2 Letters in this Answered,” plus farming-related content on the reverse referencing help with plowing for rye, cutting corn, and buckwheat. The stamp is tied by the CDS (partially obscured by the cancel) Attractive advertising/corner-card covers of this era with clear town marks and intact content usually fall in the $25–75 range at specialized postal-history sales (Siegel and comparable houses)
