A stenciled and transfer-printed yellowware earthenware mixing bowl manufactured by Medalta Potteries. The exterior features the phrase YOU OUGHT TO BE IN TOSHACH'S SHOES in black block lettering, accompanied by a pair of black and orange oxford-style shoes. The interior well repeats the motif with a rebus reading U O 2 B IN TOSHACH'S above a pair of shoes. The bowl is finished with a clear glaze and a decorative orange-toned band at the rim. The underside of the base is marked with a circular stamp reading MEDALTA POTTERIES MEDICINE HAT, ALTA. surrounding a central maple leaf containing the word CANADA. Below the maker's mark, additional printed text reads Compliments of / E. A. TOSHACH / Drumheller, Alta. Diameter approx. 25.4 cm Height approx. 11.4 cm (Measurements read from a scale showing inches only). Condition: The bowl shows general signs of utility and age. There are scattered glaze pops and minor surface pitting throughout. Dark staining and discoloration are present in the interior well. The transfer-printed lettering and graphics remain clear and legible. There are no apparent cracks or professional repairs.
