The barrel is clearly roll-stamped "SAVAGE HI-PRESSURE STEEL — MODEL 1899" along the top flat, with the caliber marking "22 H.P." stamped ahead of the receiver. The barrel address further reads "MANUFACTURED BY SAVAGE ARMS COMPANY, UTICA, N.Y., U.S.A." along with a run of patent dates — Feb. 1893, July 25 1893, Oct. 3 1899, May 25 1909, and June 1909 — confirming an early production example of this iconic hammerless lever-action. The rifle carries a visible serial number stamped on the receiver/barrel shank, useful for collectors wishing to research factory letter or production date through the Savage Arms historical records.
