2004 Pokemon Japanese Movie Commemoration VS Pack Sky-Splitting Deoxys - Lenticular 3D Promo Pokemon Trading Card. One of the most unusual, technically ambitious, and visually unforgettable Pokemon cards ever produced. Released in conjunction with the Japanese theatrical debut of Destiny Deoxys, the Movie Commemoration VS Pack: Sky Splitting Deoxys first became available through Pokemon Center stores in Japan on July 17, 2004 before receiving a wider Japanese release the following month. Rather than being pulled from a conventional booster pack, this special card was included directly inside the commemorative Half Deck alongside cards depicting Pokemon and characters connected to the film, making its original distribution inseparable from the release of the seventh Pokemon movie. What truly distinguishes this card is its remarkable lenticular construction, which creates a three dimensional changing image as the card is tilted from side to side. Depending upon the viewing angle, Deoxys transforms between its Normal, Attack, and Defense Formes, with not only the artwork changing but portions of the card design, including its attacks and illustrator attribution, changing as well. It is regarded as the first and only lenticular Pokemon card released in Japan, giving it a place in the hobby that virtually no other card can replicate. The effect was especially appropriate for Deoxys, whose ability to shift between specialized formes was one of the defining concepts surrounding the Pokemon and the Destiny Deoxys film. Once something of an overlooked curiosity from the early 2000s Japanese TCG era, the Sky Splitting Deoxys lenticular card has experienced an extraordinary surge in collector demand and value in recent years, with interest exploding as collectors increasingly seek rare Japanese exclusives, unconventional promotional releases, and cards with truly unique production features. Its movie connection, unusual method of distribution, more than two decades of age, and extraordinary transforming 3D presentation have combined to make it one of the most talked about specialty Pokemon cards of its era.
