Artist Biography: J.B. Thompson (1932–1984) was an American painter, sculptor, and master printmaker. Originally studying architecture before turning to fine art, Thompson developed an internationally recognized body of work combining painting, sculpture, etching, lithography, woodcut, carborundum, and embossed copper collage. Beginning in the early 1970s he produced limited-edition mixed media prints featuring sculptural copper elements, establishing a highly distinctive visual language rooted in geometry, cosmology, and metaphysical concepts. His works have appeared regularly at major auction houses and remain highly collectible among enthusiasts of mid-century and modernist printmaking.
