Pair of antique Japanese figural bookends depicting a peasant man and woman in traditional dress with expressive, dynamic poses. The bronze or bronze-clad figures feature dark patinated finishes with painted accents and integral bases (women figure has some damage to base). Likely dating to the late Meiji or early 20th-century Japanese export period.
