Three 19th-century American obsolete currency notes dating from the decades preceding the Civil War. Includes a $10 note from The Central Bank of Alabama, Montgomery, Alabama, dating from the 1850s and featuring an agricultural cotton-field scene with a portrait of George Washington; a $5 Franklin Silk Company note from Franklin, Portage County, Ohio, dating to approximately 1836-1838 and richly engraved with allegorical figures and Benjamin Franklin; and a $5 Farmers & Exchange Bank of Charleston, South Carolina note, dating from the 1850s, with a prominent agricultural vignette depicting oxen, a loaded wagon and workers in a cotton field, flanked by engraved portrait medallions.
