Stevens Springfield Model 87A "Gill Gun" Semi-Automatic Rifle chambered in .22 Long Rifle (and manually cycling .22 Short and .22 Long). Produced between 1938 and 1948 at the historic Chicopee Falls facility, this classic pre-serial number rifle is famously nicknamed the "Gill Gun" due to the unique vertical gas-venting slots milled directly into the left side of the receiver. It features a full-length 24-inch barrel, a robust brass tubular magazine capable of holding 15 rounds of standard .22LR, and its original walnut stock.Mechanically, the Model 87A is celebrated for its highly unusual "Click-Clack" action, where the bolt delays its forward stroke and locks back until the shooter releases the trigger shoe. Furthermore, the knurled charging handle can be pushed inward to lock the bolt completely closed, converting the rifle into a single-shot or manual repeater—perfect for shooting low-noise .22 shorts.
