Charles Numa Joefrau (1913-1983) New Orleans, LA c.1954 8.75" long Bonner Bentley was good friends with artist and traveling partner, Otis Dozier, a member of the 'Dallas 9'. Both Bonner and his wife, Val Bentley, would travel occasionally with Otis and Velma Dozier on trips through Louisiana. Otis's collecting is well noted with these carvings just coming fresh to market. The underside may be in Dozier's hand writing and is dated 1954, when the duo picked up the carving directly from Joefrau. Slightly forward swimming head with painted tack eyes and relief carving where the face meets the bill. Relief carved wings. Scratch feather looping behind the feathering. The speculums are painted in the exact same manner as the prior greenwing teal lot, though is slightly larger and more accurate to that of a pintail hen. They were both purchased at the same time.Condition: Original with some loss to neck filler at base and slight blunting to tail tip. Shallow dent in lower right side of body.Provenance: Bentley Family Collection, collected with Otis Dozier on their mutual travels of Louisiana
