Large vintage hand-painted Tonalá, Jalisco Mexican pottery decanter with matching ceramic stopper/cup, signed on the underside “TM Tonala, Jal.” The rounded vessel is richly decorated in traditional earthy terracotta, cream, black, and rust tones with detailed long-legged birds, stylized flowers, foliage, and geometric borders. The removable cylindrical top is decorated with coordinating bands and a striking radial design on its end. Tonalá is particularly known for hand-decorated pottery incorporating birds and botanical imagery. Measures approximately 11" tall overall and 9" in diameter at the widest point. Base measures approximately 4.75" in diameter, bottle opening approximately 2" in diameter, and removable top approximately 3" in diameter. Displays age-related surface wear, glaze variation and areas of discoloration consistent with a vintage handmade piece. See photos for full details.
