Percussion cap firearms emerged in the 1800s as an improvement over earlier flintlocks and reigned supreme until their obsolesces with the spread of breach fed cartridge firearms. This example appears to be a .50 Caliber American made rifle off of an import lock, evidenced by the “London Warranted” Stamp on the lock and American Bald eagle inlay in the stock. This antique had experienced catastrophic failure at some point in its life evidenced by a section of the stock near the lock missing and the absence of a hammer. Because of this, this piece would make a great conversation piece or wall hanger. A dovetail for a front and rear sight has been cut and re-filled, however both a front and rear are present. This firearm is considered an antique and does not require an FFL to facilitate the purchase or Transfer.
