R Serial # 728583. .30-06 caliber bolt action rifle with a 22” barrel. The bore is excellent, clean with strong rifling with some light fouling. This gun is made on a Springfield Armory receiver made in 1917. The barrel has been shortened and the military stock, barrel bands, and sights have been discarded. The bolt handle has been altered and the safety replaced. The black metal finish on the barrel and receiver is in very good condition showing little wear. The black metal finish on the floor plate/trigger guard shows little wear with some underlying roughness. The smooth brown laminated wood stock is a Boyd’s replacement stock and is in very good condition showing some scattered light marks and scratches. Black rubber recoil pad. Made without sights. The action works fine. Includes a Pentax Gamekeeper4-12x40 scope in Weaver style mounts. Caution!! This rifle is considered a “Low Number” Springfield (Serial No. under 800,000) which have documented problems with brittle receivers due to improper heat treatment. It is strongly advised to have this rifle checked by a knowledgeable and competent gunsmith before attempting to fire. C&R.
