Serial # NSN. .52 caliber percussion fired smoothbore musket with a 33”part round/part octagon barrel. The bore is good with light rust. The lock plate is marked “Joseph Golcher” and the barrel is marked in script that may be “J. Golcher”. Joseph Golcher was a Philadelphia based lock maker who was active in the mid 1800’s. The metal finish on the barrel is a rusty brown patina showing scuffs and scratches. The lock plate is a partially cleaned brownish gray patina. The hammer is a dark brown patina. Notch rear sight dovetailed into the barrel; the front sight is a brass blade with an oval base. Brass butt plate, patch box and trigger guard. The barrel wedge escutcheons and decorative white brass. The walnut half-stock is in very good condition showing scattered light marks with light finish wear. The forward brass ramrod ferrule was glued on and has again become detached. The action seems to work OK, there is no half-cock notch. Includes a wood ramrod.
