Oil on canvas, framed. Attributed to Paul Delvaux (1897–1994). Depicting two nude female figures in a wooded landscape with a third clothed figure in red holding a fan, the composition reflects Delvaux’s mature surreal-classical vocabulary, defined by dreamlike staging, statuesque anatomies, and quiet psychological tension set within sparse natural environments. Signed Paul Delvaux at the lower left. Label on verso: James Bourlet & Sons. 80 x 61 cm (31.5" x 24"), framed: 100.3 x 80 cm (39.5" x 31.5"). Works featuring similarly enigmatic female figures, theatrical outdoor settings, and subdued narrative ambiguity appear in the Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts, the Paul Delvaux Museum, the Musée d’Orsay, and the Kunstmuseum Basel, all holding paintings that share comparable surreal atmosphere and classical figuration.
