Oil on canvas. This artwork presents a nude woman seated on a cushioned stool, rendered in the artist’s distinctive exaggerated proportions. Her rounded form, stylized facial features, and small eyes are consistent with Botero’s established visual language, known as Boterismo, which emphasizes inflated volumes and simplified anatomy. Signed Boterio dated 86 on bottom right corner. Label on verso of Ministerio Cultura Colombia with stamps of export permit and private collection. 60 cm x 45 cm (23 3/4" x 17 3/4"), F: 78 cm x 61 cm (30 3/4" x 24"). Botero’s approach draws from pre-Columbian folk art, Mexican muralism, and European classical painting, resulting in a unique formal idiom that challenges conventional aesthetics. Works of similar subject and style are held in major institutional collections, including the Städel Museum in Frankfurt (e.g., Akt, 1964), the Art Institute of Chicago (Street Scene, 1976), and are frequently featured in international exhibitions and sales at Christie’s and Sotheby’s.
