Return to Creation by Beth Weldon is a striking three-dimensional work inspired by her son James encouragement to do my weaving. Combining a painted palette, a tree branch, and a handwoven wool sash, the piece honors an ancient finger-weaving tradition dating back to Neolithic times. Using wool, natural dyes, glass beads, acrylic paint, and traditional weaving techniques, Beth tells the imagined story of a Seneca individual near Fort LeBoeuf in 1753 returning a cherished sash to the forest when its life had come to an end. Through this work, she invites viewers to reflect on the beauty of impermanence and to appreciate that some of lifes most precious gifts are meant to be treasured for a time before being returned to nature.
