Antique Two in One Jr Wood Washboard

Antique Two in One Jr. washboard made by the Carolina Washboard Company of Raleigh, North Carolina. Plain light wood frame with two long legs, a top crossbar, and a rope hanging loop tied through the top panel. The upper wood panel is printed in red with Two in One Jr., Double Surface and Pail Board, and Carolina Washboard Co. Raleigh, N.C. The rubbing surface is corrugated galvanized metal and runs on both the front and the back, which is what the double surface name refers to. The narrow width let a washerwoman work inside a bucket or pail instead of a full tub. Condition is good for its age. The wood is solid and clean with age darkening, there are small splits at the ends of the legs, and the printed lettering is faded but still fully readable. Both metal rubbing surfaces show light surface rust in spots and a few dark stains, mostly along the bottom edge. A ruler appears in the photos for scale.
