ca. mid 18th-early 19th century; ink on screen-laid paper Fraktur "Vorschrifft" writing sample with elaborate illuminated first letter "G". The works heading roughly translates to "God is your greatest treasure…". The piece is entirely done in ink with free flowing cursive German dialect with an elaborate trailing floral vine with sprigs and dewdrops design border. The grand "G" has geometric "tile-type" accents within bold scrolling form, similar in characteristic of Ephrata Cloister penmanship samples, in a dark stained walnut wood frame; frame 17 3/8" x 11 3/4"; Condition: Back removed from frame during cataloging, early screen-laid paper. ***Extensive acid burning to large letter "G". Framer backed piece with black card stock backer and has partial upper mounted to backing. No noted watermark but penmanship is fine and precise. Some similarity in writing styles to works attributed to George Peter Deisert, an Adams Co., PA schoolmaster. Note "Papers for Birth Dayes" by Earnests
