ca. early 20th century; Attributed to the Mi'kmaq tribes of Eastern Canada and Maine. Fine woven ash splint basket has a porcupine twist design band, two-tiered basket with square bottom and round upper, woven with pounced black ash or willow wood splints that has wide and thin cut weavers. The basket has two thin round rim splints with single angular lashing. The upper has a notable double-band of porcupine twisted design that was used by the Mi'kmaq tribes.; 13"dia. X 16"H.; Condition: minor weave splint damage and one rib splint is damaged. Overall good condition.
