Wonderful history with this particular sign. These chalkboard signs were made of Masonite with a wood frame and hung in mills and feed stores across central Pennsylvania. They were used to advertise which products were available and the price the products were being sold at on that particular day. The privilege panel for this sign is for John H. Bonholtzer who operated a mill on Strasburg Pike which still stands today. The mill is famous for its original Eshelman sign painted on the side of the mill which has survived over 100 years of weather and traffic. A wonderful addition to any sign and general store collection! Provenance: The collection of Linda and the late Ed Althouse. 68"H x 25 3/4"W Very good condition.
