Made by the J.J. Bagley company from Detroit, Michigan. John J. Bagley started his tobacco business in the 1850s, naming it the Mayflower Tobacco Company. He produced iconic brands such as Buckingham, Fast Mail and Game. After his death in 1881, his son took over the business and eventually it was absorbed by the American Tobacco Company, though it continued to do business well into the 20th century. This 1-pound, pry-top tin features comical imagery of a man's club on both sides and a partial tax stamp. Lid stamped "Pat No. 71115". Bottom marked "Tindeco". Tindeco stood for the Tin Decorating Company which was located in Baltimore from 1914 to 1935 and did work for the American Tobacco Company. 5"H x 5"D Toning, staining and areas of loss to the paper labels. Partial tax stamp with no series visible. Light surface rust on top. Rare tin.
