Charles Volrath, Renfrew County, 1870-1952. Few carvers in the Ottawa Valley made a living wood carving. Charles Volrath was an exception. After showing at the Toronto CNE for years then moving on to compete at the Chicago World's Fair of 1933, Volrath never looked back. This is a carving of a lion standing atop a rock outrcrop with the backdrop of a maple leaf, original price $10, not signed. 10"H.
