1972 BU Eisenhower Dollar featuring the iconic portrait of President Dwight D. Eisenhower on the obverse and an eagle landing on the Moon on the reverse, based on the Apollo 11 mission insignia. Designed by Frank Gasparro, the Eisenhower Dollar was introduced in 1971 to honor the former president and commemorate the success of the Apollo program. The 1972 issue is particularly interesting to collectors because Philadelphia Mint examples were produced with three different reverse varieties, identified by the appearance of the Earth beneath Florida. Type 2 is the scarce variety and is considered a key issue in the Eisenhower Dollar series. This BU example offers the classic large-format Eisenhower Dollar design in brilliant uncirculated condition, making it a great addition to any U.S. coin collection.
