Beautiful form and decoration on this 19th-century hanging shelf. The shelf is made of thick pine and is square nailed. There is a carved tulip in the center with additional carving around the edges surrounding the tulip. The sides and face boards are scrolled giving the shelf a wonderful presentation. The main shelf has two parallel carved channels for holding plates. The paint history is interesting as the original paint on the shelf was blue and then white (which might be the base paint for the graining) followed by the grain paint trimmed in black. There is very good age and crazing to the grain paint which might date to later 19th century. 18 1/2"H x 20 3/4"W x 8"D Glued break on top right edge and top of back board at top right.
