CGC 4.0 Slightly Brittle Pages Liberty Scouts #2 (#1) Centaur Comics – 1941 Historic and highly collectible Golden Age wartime key featuring the first appearance of the Liberty Scouts along with the origins of Fire-Man and Man of War. Despite the numbering, this issue serves as the true premiere issue of the Liberty Scouts title and represents an important early patriotic superhero comic from the opening years of World War II. This remarkable issue is especially notable for its dramatic Paul Gustavson cover artwork depicting a fictional German attack on Washington D.C. — a striking and historically significant wartime image produced during the tense pre-Pearl Harbor era of American comics. Early WWII-themed covers from 1941 remain among the most historically important and visually compelling books of the Golden Age. The issue features artwork contributions from Bob Lubbers and Sam Gilman alongside Paul Gustavson’s cover and interior work. Gustavson remains best known as the creator of The Angel for Timely Comics and one of the defining artists of early patriotic superhero comics. Centaur Comics publications are notoriously scarce due to low survival rates and fragile production quality, making high-grade and complete examples especially difficult to locate today. Early Liberty Scouts material is highly desirable among collectors of wartime, patriotic, and pre-war superhero comics. Professionally graded CGC 4.0 with Slightly Brittle Pages, presenting with strong visual appeal and impressive historical significance for a scarce 1941 Golden Age key. A rare and important wartime Golden Age comic featuring the debut of the Liberty Scouts and dramatic WWII-themed cover art.
