Godinger Bacchus Silverplate Wine Holder

Godinger silverplate wine bottle holder in an openwork grapevine pattern centered by a large cast mask of Bacchus crowned with grapes and foliage, with a continuous band of grape berries at the lower rim and an adjustable interior bracket with a knurled thumbscrew. The black flocked base is impressed GODINGER and carries a foil seal reading GODINGER SILVER ART CO. LTD. and MADE IN CHINA. Both original hang tags are still attached on their string, one printed THE LEGEND OF BACCHUS with a paragraph on the Roman god of wine and a 1982 Godinger New York copyright line. Original tags on a piece this age are uncommon and help date it exactly. Condition is fair. There is heavy dark tarnish throughout and significant plate wear through to brassy base metal on one face, but no dents, splits or breaks in the castings. Sold as-is.
