Oil painting on canvas after Montague Dawson's celebrated 1959 marine painting "Dawn Mists, the Clipper Nicoya." The composition depicts the clipper ship Nicoya under full sail, driving through heavy rolling seas beneath a luminous, mist-filled sky. Executed in a highly detailed maritime realist style, with particularly strong treatment of the rigging, billowing sails, breaking waves, and atmospheric light. Unsigned. Professionally presented in an ornate carved-style gilt and black frame. Good overall condition. 48" x 39" framed. Montague Dawson (1890-1973, United Kingdom) was a prominent British marine painter celebrated for his dramatic depictions of historic sailing ships, particularly clipper ships at sea. His work is recognized for its meticulous nautical detail, atmospheric effects, and convincing portrayal of movement and water.
