19th-century Japanese color woodblock print by Utagawa Kunisada, also known as Toyokuni III, depicting a theatrical scene from the celebrated kabuki and puppet drama "Imoseyama Onna Teikin." The composition presents two elaborately costumed figures within a richly colored landscape setting, characteristic of Kunisada's popular actor and theatrical imagery of the Edo period. The print bears Japanese inscriptions, Kunisada's artist signature and publisher/censor marks within the lower portion. . Please review photographs carefully for condition. 14 2/3" x 9 3/4". Utagawa Kunisada (1786-1865, Japan), later known as Toyokuni III, was one of the most prolific and commercially successful ukiyo-e artists of the Edo period. A leading member of the Utagawa school, he was particularly renowned for kabuki actor portraits, theatrical subjects, beautiful women and illustrations drawn from popular literature.
