Vintage Chinoiserie Faux-Cinnabar Table Lamp

Updated August 22, 2026

Large vintage Asian-inspired table lamp featuring a richly molded baluster-form body decorated with birds, flowering branches, landscape panels and repeating geometric borders. The orange-red finish is accented with a dark wash that emphasizes the deeply molded decoration, along with touches of gold. The lamp rests on a substantial black faceted base. The body and base appear to be constructed from heavy cast plaster or a similar composition material. This decorative finish was designed to imitate the appearance of traditional carved cinnabar lacquer. Likely produced for the American Chinoiserie or Hollywood Regency decorating market, circa late 1960s–1980s. Measures approximately 27–28 inches high to the top of the bulb socket. Harp is included but may be changed to accommodate the buyer’s preferred shade. Shade and finial are not included. Condition: Displays scattered small finish chips and surface wear consistent with age, with the white composition material visible in several areas. Please examine photographs carefully for condition. Equipped with a later brown polarized cord and plug. As with all vintage lighting, professional inspection is recommended before continued use. An impressive statement lamp with wonderful color, scale and intricate Asian-inspired detailing.
