J. Stevens Arms & Tool Co. Favorite Falling Block Single Shot Rifle .22 Caliber with Octagonal to Round Barrel Antique This single-shot Stevens Favorite rifle is a classic American rimfire arm featuring a falling-block action operated by a distinctive decoratively curved S-shaped lever which also serves as the trigger guard. The barrel is configured with an octagonal breech section that transitions to a round profile and is fitted with a simple blade front sight and a notch rear sight. The furniture consists of a straight-grip walnut stock and a matching wooden forend, both exhibiting honest signs of historical use. A knurled take-down screw is located on the underside of the receiver, facilitating easy disassembly. Key markings incised on the top of the barrel include J. STEVENS A. & T. CO. on the first line and CHICOPEE FALLS MASS. U.S.A. PAT. APR. 17. 94 on the second line. While no specific caliber or serial number is clearly visible, the model is iconic of late 19th-century youth rifles chambered in rimfire cartridges.
