Hand-tied Persian Tabriz room-sized area rug featuring a Mahi or Herati design pattern. The construction consists of a dense wool pile with silk highlights on a cotton foundation. The composition centers on a multi-lobed ivory and bluemedallion set within a large, serrated salmon-colored diamond medallion. The field is decorated with an all-over repeating Herati pattern of stylized floral and leaf motifs in cream, terracotta, and light blue against a dark navy ground. The borders include multiple secondary guards and a wide primary border with large floral palmettes and scrolling vine-work. The reverse side reveals a high-density, even weave with hand-stitched brown leather reinforcement strips alongthe vertical edges. 10 feet 2 inches long by 6 feet 8 inches wide. This rug is in overall nice condition with mostly expected wear due to its age and use.
