Michael Jordan famously paused his legendary basketball career to play professional baseball in 1994, signing a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox organization. Motivated by the tragic murder of his father, James Jordan Sr., who had always dreamed of his son playing baseball, Jordan suited up as an outfielder. He spent the 1994 season playing for the Birmingham Barons, the White Sox's Double-A affiliate. Jordan also played in the Arizona Fall League to refine his skills, but his baseball pursuit came to an end in early 1995 due to the Major League Baseball player strike. Refusing to participate as a replacement player during spring training, Jordan opted to step away from the diamond. On March 18, 1995, he announced his return to the NBA with a simple, iconic two-word press release: "I'm back".
