Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema After Sculpture Gallery

One framed, hand-painted oil-on-canvas reproduction of A Sculpture Gallery in Rome at the Time of Augustus, after Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema’s 1867 composition, also known as A Dealer in Statues. The painting is housed in an ornate gilt-style frame andmeasures approximately 47 × 62 inches overall. It is a later reproduction, not the original Alma-Tadema painting. The frame has numerous scratches, abrasions, chips, finish loss, rubbing, darkened areas, and uneven wear, particularly along the outeredges and raised ornament. The painted surface appears dusty or dull, with scattered irregularities and reflections; detailed examination for craquelure, restoration, or paint loss is limited by the photographs. The rear canvas and stretcher appeardusty and aged, with handling marks and minor discoloration. Rear hanging wire is present and appears slack. Secure canvas attachment and concealed structural condition have not been established. No front signature is visible. Reproducer, productiondate, frame maker, and provenance are unidentified.
