Original Stewart-Warner "Write-It-Urself" countertop neon advertising display from the 1930s, featuring an Art Deco cast metal frame with integrated red neon illumination. These innovative displays were designed with glass writing panels, allowing merchants to handwrite daily specials, prices, menus, or advertisements directly onto the glass using a special lettering medium. The concealed red neon tubing around the perimeter illuminated the handwritten message, creating the appearance of custom neon lettering at a fraction of the cost. Popular in diners, taverns, drug stores, and general stores, these signs represent an early and highly collectible form of changeable illuminated advertising. Retains the original Stewart-Warner "Write-It-Urself" Neon Sign medallion marked Chicago, U.S.A., Patented. Lights up as shown. Exhibits age-appropriate wear consistent with use. Measures 24" x 18" x 5".
