Signed lower right "ALLAN BARR." A tranquil Canadian landscape depicting a rocky shoreline overlooking a calm lake with a solitary sailboat beneath an expansive cloud-filled sky. Executed in a restrained palette with soft, atmospheric brushwork, the composition captures the quiet beauty of the Canadian Shield. Artist Biography: Allan Robert Barr (1890–1959) was a Canadian painter born in London, England. He studied at the London School of Art under noted artists including Frank Brangwyn, John M. Swan, George W. Lambert, and William Nicholson before serving during the First World War. Barr immigrated to Canada in 1922, settling first in Kingston and then Toronto, where he established a successful career as both a portrait and landscape painter. He taught at the Ontario College of Art (1943–44), became an Associate of the Royal Canadian Academy (ARCA) in 1928, and was also a member of the Ontario Society of Artists. His work is represented in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and other public institutions. Sight: 9.5 × 13 in. Frame: 17 × 13.5 in.
