HiBid Description Impressive monumental Renaissance Revival carved oak sideboard with an elaborately carved mirror back, dating to the late Victorian period. This exceptional piece features outstanding relief carving throughout, including a dramatic lion mask crest, scrolling acanthus foliage, carved griffin figures, barley twist columns, floral and foliate panels, and richly figured quarter-sawn oak. The owner believed this sideboard to be by R.J. Horner, and the overall design is certainly consistent with furniture produced by that renowned New York maker. However, no maker’s label or identifying mark was found, so it is being offered as an R.J. Horner style piece rather than an attributed example. Condition: Very good antique condition with expected wear appropriate for age. The original mirror is present, and the cabinet displays beautifully with rich color and outstanding carved detail.
