AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Offered as a -6- figure group of vintage MPC Multiple Products Corporation white molded plastic astronaut figures, each measuring approximately 2 inches tall and produced in approximately 1:36 scale. The assorted poses depict lunar surface activity, including an astronaut handling an umbilical hose or communication cable, an astronaut using a handheld camera or viewing instrument, two walking astronauts carrying portable equipment or sample cases, an astronaut operating a long sampling probe or tongs, and a seated astronaut designed for placement in a spacecraft, lunar rover or related space toy. MPC originally operated as Multiple Products Corporation in New York City and began producing molded plastic toy figures around 1950. The company became known for inexpensive figure sets, playset accessories, soldiers, historical characters and ring hand figures designed to hold interchangeable equipment. By the later 1960s, the business increasingly used the name Multiple Toymakers. The MPC astronaut series included eight approximately 2 inch figures molded in white, red, blue and other colors during the height of American interest in the Space Race and lunar exploration. The detailed spacesuits, helmets, life support equipment, scientific tools and varied working poses reflect the Apollo era fascination with astronauts and lunar surface missions. The group offers collectible appeal for MPC toy enthusiasts, vintage space figure collections, Apollo era displays and mid century plastic playset accessories.
