Edward S. Curtis – “The Wood Gatherer – Sioux,” 1908 A striking winter scene of daily labor: a Sioux woman, wrapped in a heavy striped blanket, carries a large load of firewood on her back as she walks through the snow. Soft light and bare trees create a quiet, atmospheric mood. Image size approx. 11¼ × 15¼ inches. An excellent documentary plate showing the practical work of Plains women and a fine example of Curtis’s ability to find dignity and poetry in ordinary tasks. Desirable for collectors of Sioux subjects and ethnographic genre scenes.Ready for framing
